About Us
Matria is a feminist and human rights organization. We work from a place of love, solidarity, to help transform Puerto Rico into a just, equitable, and peaceful society. Our purpose is to promote equity, freedom and the full human development of women and other marginalized groups.
Mission
Vision
What do we do?
- Drive processes of empowerment and economic self-sufficiency, providing access to financial services, economic development, and housing.
-
- Combat gender-based violence and discrimination with a comprehensive focus on human rights.
-
- Offer practical and transformative support, recognizing each person’s dignity, capacities, and potential, moving beyond charity-based approaches.
What do we look for?
- We dream of a society where diversity–of sex, gender, race, origin, beliefs, immigration status, class, or abilities–is valued and respected in every space: family, work, community, and political life.
-
- We aspire to a Matria in which every person is guaranteed access to housing, health, education, food, and safety, and can contribute to the common good through their talents and potential.
-
- Our purpose is to build a Puerto Rico where all people live free from violence and discrimination, fully exercise their rights, and develop their human capacities. A happy, prosperous, and caring Matria.
