The projects we are working on
Matria Project
Transitional Housing Program that serves women and LGBTTIQ+ communities who are in an active situation of domestic violence, sexual violence, stalking or human trafficking and do not have safe and dignified housing.
Gaia offers vouchers for up to 2 years while our case manager accompanies the participant applying our Human Economic Development and Empowerment Model. This model takes into consideration the Social Determinants of Health for a self-sufficient future.
What does the Gaia Transitional Housing Program include?
24/7 Helpline
787-489-0022
What is the 24/7 Helpline?
Telephone response program for women seeking help with a person-centered, trauma-sensitive approach as a response to gender-based violence. It arises as an interagency response between expert organizations on the issue of gender violence in Puerto Rico. This hotline arises as a result of the pandemic caused by COVID 19 and the measures taken by the Government as the ¨lockdown¨, leaving the victims captive with their aggressors.
The hotline operates through a virtual phone box with a unique number: 787-489-0022. It is a partnership between Proyecto Matria, Casa Protegida Julia de Burgos, Hogar Ruth, Casa la Bondad, Casa Pensamiento and Casa Juana Colón.
What do we do from the line?
At Proyecto Matria, we are here for you 24/7
For security reasons, we do not return calls. If you feel it is safe to contact you, you may leave us your phone number. Include a time where you feel it is safe to contact you.
Through this brief survey we seek to know the perception of the services received from the Line and to continue our improvement process.
ProBono Law Program
It is a network of legal professionals who volunteer their time free of charge to support Proyecto Matria and our 24-7 Helpline participants.
Matria is accredited since 2019 by the Supreme Court of Puerto Rico, to certify ProBono hours to legal professionals.
Public Policy Program
From this program we work to promote public policies that guarantee the human rights of women, LGBTTIQ+ people and other populations made vulnerable by inequalities. To do so, we use information based on research, law, input from other organizations and the experience accumulated through direct service.

The Women's Route
Who are we?
La Ruta de las Mujeres is a social and political empowerment project aimed at educating women throughout the archipelago to learn about electoral and political processes and develop skills to effectively participate in them. LIBERA
Sector Miraflores, Orocovis, Puerto Rico
Libera is a comprehensive economic development program that supports women and people in marginalized communities in Puerto Rico on their path to self-sufficiency and full human development. Inspired by a feminist and human rights model, Libera seeks to provide practical tools and personalized support to foster equity and collective well-being.
What Libera offers:
Libera starts from the premise that poverty is not a choice, but the result of structural inequalities. Therefore, the program focuses on providing the tools necessary for them to successfully create and operate enterprises that contribute to social welfare and advance equity.
More than a series of workshops, Libera is a transformative platform that accompanies women entrepreneurs on their journey to become agents of change in their communities.
